San Diego City Council
Passes Overreaching Regulation
San Diego County Gun Owners PAC met with council members,
attended committee meetings
, rallied residents of the City of San Diego to make statements,
showed up at the City Council meeting
,
brought it to the attention of media, and did all we could to stop the law from passing. Unfortunately, the current makeup of the San Diego City Council was too much to overcome.
But it’s not all bad news. Through activism and hard work, City Attorney’s office changed the penalty to potentially be an infraction rather than a misdemeanor. This is an important move. A misdemeanor involving firearms is potentially devastating to gun owners that could result in incarceration, the loss of rights, or the end of a career. An “infraction” is not as serious (think speeding ticket or jaywalking). Although we are proud that we were able to make an important change, this is still a horrible overreach and we completely disagree with its passing.
The law now requires all residents of the City of San Diego to store their firearms locked, inside a safe, or otherwise inoperable inside their house unless they are touching the firearm or “in control”. It is very vague and left a lot undefined. Once it is fully written and approved, we will send out the details.
Although we lost this one, SDCGO is proud to have brought this unconstitutional law to the attention of the Second Amendment community and worked hard to engage with the city council members.
The ordinance will need to go before the City Council once again before it is final. We expect the vote to be held before August.
Thank you to all the SDCGO members for attending! There were so many great statements by so many great gun owners. Let this not discourage, but rather let it strengthen your resolve. While others flee and complain; you continue to work hard. We are just around the corner from another election and SDCGO is going to need your help getting the right people elected so this kind of thing never happens again.
Thank you all for your support and help.
Together, We Will Win!

SDCGO Members and Supporters made some great statements at the City Council meeting. Check them out…
“Can you imagine if it had been a robbery, kidnapping, violent intruder into my home, intending on committing rape or murder? Or hurt my kid?” -Veronica
“When I have seconds to protect myself, the police are only minutes away.” -Hannah
“If the city council truly cares about safety, don’t pass yet another law that punishes the average San Diego. Instead, talk to actual gun safety and security experts.” -Mike
“
Theft from someone’s home represents only 6% and that 6% includes people whose gun was locked up when it was stolen. So we know that this regulation will not have any impact when it comes to stopping criminals from obtaining firearms.” -Shawn
“It may prevent homeowners from defending themselves and their wife and their children.” -City Councilmember Scott Sherman
“I know how important it is to have firearms accessible when the situations arise. I support current laws already in place. Every individual’s situation is different.” -City Councilmember Chris Cate

Despite having dozens of people there to make a statement in opposition, it still passed. It’s like the Council members weren’t even listening. So why bother showing up?

PRESS RELEASE
San Diego County Gun Owners PAC Calls for Resigning, Replacement of Del Mar Fairgrounds Board
In the wake of the deaths of children and thoroughbred race horses at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, as well as violence at a rap artist’s concert and a federal judge’s injunction on the violation of San Diegans’ First Amendment rights, the San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, is calling for the resignation and replacement of all members of the Del Mar Fairgrounds board of directors.
“The time is up for asking how the board will fix their many problems. Instead, it is time for a new board,” said Michael Schwartz, SDCGO executive director. “San Diego County Gun Owners is calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to replace every member of the Board of Directors of the 22nd District Agricultural Association for the safety and welfare of our community.

Are you A Lady Who Wants to Help?
Do You Know a Lady Who Wants to Help?
Our
#NotMeSD
program has earned a fantastic response! And now we need more help.
If you are a woman (or know a woman) who would like to be a NotMeSD Ambassador to help women find firearms training, purchase the right gun for them, and/or apply for their CCW, please contact us.
You do
NOT
need to be an expert in any of these fields. You just need to have a basic knowledge, be willing to help, and are open to learning. You do not give the firearms training; rather you help them find professional training they can afford and we will show you how.
You do not consult on which gun to buy; rather you help them find a shop that will assist them in purchasing a firearm they can afford.
We have a training guide for Ambassadors and over 150 women who have reached out to us for help in getting training, finding a firearm to purchase, or want their CCW.
Now we need YOU!
Interested in helping other women? Please email NotMeSD@SDCGO.org

Got CCW?
We have info…
Good News and Bad News….
Bad News
: If you call and make an appointment for your CCW, your appointment date will be almost a year from now.
Good News
: You will not have to wait that long and your appointment will be moved up.
Over the last 1 1/2 years, the Sheriff’s Department has been wonderful to work with and back in January they proved that once again. When the issue of wait time was brought to their attention, they acted. They re-organized their department, hired more staff, and are putting in overtime to keep up with demand. They are also implementing software to run the CCW program.
So even though the date you get might be a year out, you will only have to wait a few months until you get a phone call asking you to come in early for your first appointment.
Still waiting to apply for your CCW? Don’t wait!
Check out our calendar for all of the upcoming CCW seminars that SDCGO hosts around the County. You can also take a look at all of our SDCGO events!
Here is a list of places that are hosting seminars monthly to teach you how to get a CCW. To sign up for a seminar, call or visit their website for more details:

Can CCW Holders Use Normal Capacity Magazines in Their Carry Gun?
|
We have been hearing a lot of bad information and guessing on this question. People want to know, does the sheriff have a restriction on using a magazines that holds more than 10 rounds in their carry gun?
The answer is a CCW holder can use a normal capacity magazine in their carry gun.
We asked the sheriff to add this to their FAQ section on their CCW website so he did. You can see the screenshot on the left or check out the link below for the web page.
Please forward this to everyone you know to help us get the word out.
