San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, will co-host with retailer Discount Gun Mart a free event called “Train a Teacher Day” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 10, at Discount Gun Mart, 1510 Morena Blvd., San Diego. This free event is for any teacher, administrator, administrative staff employee, school board member or any staff member affiliated with a public or private school in any way, according to Wendy Hauffen, SDCGO. Advanced RSVP is not necessary.

Five classes covering safety, proficiency and familiarity with a firearm will be offered. Topics and times for the five classes include: What’s required to buy firearms, 10:30 a.m.; Assault weapons vs. sporting rifles, 11:30 a.m.; Small handguns, 12:30 p.m.; Defensive shotguns, 1:30 p.m.; Gun-free zones, 2:30 p.m. Instructors will be certified professionals from the firearms training community. Attendees can attend any part of the event or the entire event depending on their personal schedule, said Hauffen.

“We care about our educators and school staff, and want to make sure they have the most up-to-date information while having fun learning,” Hauffen said. “The overall purpose is to give back to those who care and educate our children. This event will teach our teachers about safety, defensive strategies and awareness, and answer any questions educators may have about safe and responsible firearms ownership. With all of the misinformation that is being publicized in recent headlines, we feel that education is the answer.”
