New Ammo Laws Going into Effect July 1

So the new ammo law gets fully implemented on Monday, July 1st. That means that, unless you use the ammo you buy at the range before you leave the range, you generally have to go through a background check to buy ammo in California.

The story below is from this week and happened because the governor gave confusing statements in a press conference about the new laws. So watch the video below and check out the flow chart that Glockstore or CRPA put together that we posted below the video.

Regarding the type of ID you can use to buy ammo:

YES, you can use a REAL ID California Drivers License.

NO, you cannot use a “federal limits apply” California Drivers License.

If you still have an older California Drivers License (not a REAL ID or a federal limits apply ID), you need to also provide proof of citizenship such as a certified birth certificate or an unexpired passport.

The California Department of Justice is attacking responsible gun owners again.

Starting July 1, the DOJ plans to
require anyone purchasing a firearm or ammunition to present a federally compliant REAL ID
.

Despite months-long wait times for DMV appointments, the DOJ is only giving Californians 12 days to get a REAL ID. If this new rule is adopted, otherwise law-abiding Californians without a REAL ID will get denied when purchasing a firearm or ammunition.

The Department is trying to adopt this rule on an “emergency” basis, limiting public participation and commentary to only five days. I encourage you to
submit comments
in opposition to this absurd proposal by this Friday, June 21 to ensure your voice is heard before the deadline.

program has earned a fantastic response! And now we need more help.

If you are a woman (or know a woman) who would like to be a NotMeSD Ambassador to help women find firearms training, purchase the right gun for them, and/or apply for their CCW, please contact us.

You do
NOT
need to be an expert in any of these fields. You just need to have a basic knowledge, be willing to help, and are open to learning. You do not give the firearms training; rather you help them find professional training they can afford and we will show you how.

You do not consult on which gun to buy; rather you help them find a shop that will assist them in purchasing a firearm they can afford.

We have a training guide for Ambassadors and over 150 women who have reached out to us for help in getting training, finding a firearm to purchase, or want their CCW.

Good News and Bad News….

Bad News
: If you call and make an appointment for your CCW, your appointment date will be almost a year from now.

Good News
: You will not have to wait that long and your appointment will be moved up.

Over the last 1 1/2 years, the Sheriff’s Department has been wonderful to work with and back in January they proved that once again. When the issue of waits time was brought to their attention they acted. They re-organized their department, hired more staff, and are putting in overtime to keep up with demand. They are also implementing software to run the CCW program.

So even though the date you get might be a year out, you will only have to wait a few months until you get a phone call asking you to come in early for your first appointment.

We have been hearing a lot of bad information and guessing on this question. People want to know, does the sheriff have a restriction on using a magazines that holds more than 10 rounds in their carry gun?

The answer is a CCW holder can use a normal capacity magazine in their carry gun.

We asked the sheriff to add this to their FAQ section on their CCW website so he did. You can see the screenshot on the left or check out the link below for the web page.
