SDCGO found out that the Del Mar Union School Board would be discussing the idea of adding additional gun ban language to the school safety proclamation that they passed a few months ago. Extremists from Moms Demand Action decided to pressure the Board into becoming anti-gun activists, rather than work on budget issues and support teachers and students. SDCGO showed up to confront and educate. SDCGO members Paul Hynes, Jimmy Lin, Morgan Ballis, and Michael Schwartz spoke to the Board and made fantastic points on what the Board could do to be effective if they truly cared about safety, and why gun ban language is inappropriate and a troubling precedent to set.
Del Mar Union School Board decided NOT to add gun ban language to the proclamation, and thanks to Morgan Ballis’ suggestion, is making sure that their active shooter plan is up to date. DMUSD Board Member Scott Wooden showed leadership and wisdom throughout and helped the Board understand the enormous problems with calling for a gun ban. We could use many more like Wooden in elected office.
Second Amendment politics is happening right here in your back yard and it is not a partisan issue. This school board was being pestered and bullied by Moms Demand Action. We will continue to monitor.
