A Message from our Executive Director
What a week (and it’s not even Friday)!
The end is near? Yesterday, President Trump said in a press conference that he wants to see the country back open for business by Easter. That is what we ALL want! So, we encourage you all to do everything you can to make sure that not one more person gets infected by COVID-19. No matter if you are Dem or Repub, NeverTrumper or MAGA, believe we went too far or believe we haven’t gone far enough, thinks it’s just the flu or thinks it’s a major health crisis, are prepared or don’t have a can opener, own a gun or are vulnerable…
We have a possible end date and we all want to get back to normal. There will be a lot of time for an important analysis and critique of everything that has gone on in the name of COVID-19 after we get back to normal.
For now, we encourage everyone to do everything within their control to make sure you do not get infected and you do not infect others. Whatever it means for you regarding travel and sanitation, commit to being part of what helps us all get through this quickly.
Gun shops closing? Nope! At least, not yet. There was discussion of closing gun shops and a fairly heated debate. Yesterday Sheriff Gore, in a press conference, stated there will be no closures of gun shops as long as they are adhering to the CDC requirements on social distancing and sanitization, cleanliness, etc.
Could the governor step in an change all that? That appears to be a possibility and we have lawyers standing by. Today, we are proud of the part SDCGO played in working with the County, the Sheriff, and the gun shops to ensure that they can continue to operate. Activism works and local elected officials matter.
And we absolutely could not have done it without our members. Thank you, SDCGO members!
