SDCGO Board Member and Cajon Valley School Board Member Responds:
In today’s UT there is a substantially flawed opinion article written by SD Unified School Board Trustee, Kevin Beiser, about guns, school safety and Gun Violence Restraining Orders. I have commented before about my low opinion of that board. But Beiser is so far out of his lane on this one I had to write a “Letter to the Editor” at the UT. If John Lynch was still running the place I know my letter would be printed (or Beiser’s garbage never would have been). Here is what I wrote, as limited to 150 words, we will see if the UT actually publishes it:
Dear Editor,
I have read Trustee Beiser’s opinion piece on school safety and guns. How a claimed “educator” can be so intentionally ignorant of the facts while leading the second largest school district in the state is appalling. To cite Sandy Hook Promise and the Brady Campaign, the “Fake News” of the anti 2nd Amendment world, only solidifies his deceit. If he wants to educate students on gun safety the NRA program, “Eddie the Eagle” is an excellent curriculum written by people that actually know firearms and safety. As for Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVRO’s) there is not a single instance where a GVRO was issued by the San Diego City Attorney where prior existing law would not have allowed for the taking of the gun by the police. Not to mention the “young people” Beiser cites cannot legally own a firearm as such GVROs do not apply at all in this evaluation.
Respectfully,
James P. Miller, Jr, Esq.
