The San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee (PAC) promoting and advocating for Second Amendment rights, has announced that Gail Ramer, a former legislative staff member for the past 12 years, has been named SDCGO Executive Director. The announcement was made by Michael Schwartz, SDCGO founder.

Ramer will oversee membership growth and retention, fundraising and stakeholder engagement, along with legislative advocacy, programs management and strategic community relations, for the 3,500-member SDCGO, considered as San Diego’s largest registered PAC and largest local civil rights organization in terms of its membership size.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to support law-abiding gun owners and look forward to fighting to protect Second Amendment rights,” said Ramer. “For the past 10-plus years, I have greatly enjoyed assisting firearms dealers with the state’s complex, bureaucratic government regulations. A large part of what we did, however, was to assist firearms purchasers with their dealer-record-of-sale issues and I look forward to continuing to help with those issues at SDCGO.

“We live under the most anti-gun government in the history of our country. Law-abiding gun owners are under constant attack. Activism is more important now than ever before.”

Prior to joining SDCGO, Ramer served on the legislative staffs of two San Diego East County elected officials, including Brian Jones, former State Assemblymember and current State Senator from 2010 to 2016, and former State Assemblymember Randy Voepel from 2016 to 2022. She began as a Field Representative and was later promoted to serve as Jones’ District Director and Voepel’s Chief of Staff.

Born in West Chester, Penn., Gail’s family arrived in San Diego in 1977. She graduated from Mount Miguel High School in East County’s Spring Valley community (class of 1986). She has lived in Santee since 1990.

Gail is married to Kai Ramer, CEO for Rick Engineering, a planning, design, engineering and surveying services firm. They have been married for 31 years. They have four grown children and three grandchildren.

Founded in 2015, San Diego County Gun Owners is a registered political action committee (FPPC ID #1379388) and advocacy organization focused on organizing the gun industry and protecting the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms. Based on its membership size of more than 3,500 individuals, SDCGO is considered San Diego’s largest registered PAC as well as largest local civil rights organization. SDCGO features a diverse and inclusive membership with representatives from the LGBTQ, Latino, African American, Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

While every U.S. state has a Second Amendment PAC, along with several nationwide gun rights PACs, SDCGO is believed to be the America’s first, strictly local, countywide Second Amendment advocacy organization providing news and information on new gun laws, along with expanding and restoring Second Amendment rights. SDCGO sponsored events include gun safety classes, sporting clay shoots, social gatherings, a weekly live Sunday afternoon radio show and pistol, rifle and shotgun experiences taught by professional instructors.
