Courage. Knowledge. Power.

The #NotMeSD Movement is SDCGO's initiative to stop sexual assault and end domestic violence. The sad reality is that the prevalence of these crimes is increasing. As part of our effort to end this crisis, SDCGO is providing assistance for any woman who owns or would like to own a firearm, seeks training, and/or would like to apply for a CCW (Conceal Carry Weapons Permit).

The response to COVID-19 was to shut down the economy and stay-at-home in order to stop the spread of the infection. Suddenly, everything changed. Everyone evaluated just what "personal safety" means. In the month of April 2020, over 60,000 San Diegans went to a federally licensed firearms dealer and purchased a firearm for the first time. During the same time period, almost 2 million people across the U.S. did the same thing. People understood that their safety was important and possibly at risk. the narrative and statistics no longer mattered. The understanding that a firearm equals protection did matter.

For all new gun owners, we offer help, expertise, and resources. We want you to be successful and understand the decision you made to protect yourself and your loved ones. We are here for you.

SDCGO's area of expertise is to provide education, firearms training, and personal assistance in obtaining a California CCW (Permit to carry a firearm) if desired. Our focus is currently on women because women are more commonly the victims, and we are committed to providing resources for education and training to all who are affected by abuse and concerned with her own personal safety.

SDCGO believes the epidemic of sexual assault and domestic violence must be ended. There are many other local resource programs available, and we believe adding firearms protection to women's options is critically important. We invite people from other areas of expertise to be part of our #NotMeSD movement and together we will create empowering initiatives for women to not be victims.

Reported Rapes

  • There were 8,247 reports of domestic violence in the first half of 2019.
  • In San Diego, on average, 3 women are raped each day.

Why Firearms:

Almost anyone can learn how to use one in order to empower themselves to be their own protector.

Firearms Fitness Background:

I didn't touch my first handgun until I was in my 20s, but as soon as I did, I was hooked! I soon realized there were not a lot of resources for women in the firearms industry, especially in San Diego, so I began working to fix that. I have been an instructor for 6 years now and am certified in NRA basic pistol, basic rifle, basic shotgun, refuse to be a victim, personal protection in the home, chief range safety officer, as well as The Well Armed Woman certified instructor and CCW instructor through the San Diego Sheriff.

Firearms Fitness Background:

I have been shooting since I could hold a gun. My dad was a Sheriff and taught me to respect firearms at a young age. Over the past few years, I have become more involved within the firearms community locally, owning my own guns, and helping women gain the knowledge and skills to comfortably their own firearms. I am a member at a local range where I currently train with a firearms instructor, I am learning valuable, tactical skills. The more knowledge I have, the more confident I am with my firearms.
