CDC Takes Aim at Gun Violence

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was once an agency that the American people trusted without question. I personally have always held that opinion and trusted the CDC as having the last word on public health issues. Events of the last 18 months have drastically changed my view and, I suspect, the same has happened with many people.

The CDC has become a highly politicized government agency. This was obvious in their erratic and decidedly unscientific response to COVID-19. The political bias is seen in the agency becoming involved in issues well outside their area of responsibility.

The CDC has recently attempted to direct landlords on how they manage their properties through a moratorium on eviction orders. It took the Supreme Court to step in and remind the CDC of their lack of authority in that area.

The CDC apparently couldn’t be trusted to provide guidance on when and how to have children return to school. Instead of providing recommendations based on science, they were influenced by powerful teachers unions. The CDC is more a political organization than a public health organization.

This politization is why the CDC cannot be trusted to study causes of injuries and deaths related to firearms. Congress realized this back in 1996 and passed the Dickey amendment barring the CDC from using federal funds to promote gun-control. The Dickey amendment didn’t bar research into violence related to firearms but only the promotion of gun-control. This was clarified in a 2017 amendment to the bill.

CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky displays a shocking ignorance of firearms related violence and a far-left bias regarding firearms in comments made during a CNN interview. Any study conducted by the CDC under this director is likely to yield yet another document filled with misinformation to be used by gun-control activists.

Dr Walensky also addresses safety and accidents involving firearms. She claims to want to involve gun-control activists to help make us all safer (making us safer being a common argument to promote a variety of far-left ideas). If she just took a cursory look, she would quickly discover what most gun owners already understand.

Given the number of guns in America and the number of gun owners, the number of accidental shootings is extremely small. In 2017 there were 486 fatal firearm accidents in the United States, constituting 0.3% of 169,936 fatal accidents that year. That’s out of 340 million people. I doubt we can get much safer. Gun safety has steadily increased for many years due to the efforts of the NRA and many other pro Second Amendment organizations.

Using the CDC to promote gun-control is just another example of the government attack on the citizens right to keep and bear arms. If you’re a rational, thinking person then you recognize the danger in the government disarming its citizens. The answer, as always, is to get involved and do everything you can to elect people who respect and will protect your rights. Once the government takes your rights they’re gone forever.

The right to self-defense is a basic human right. Gun ownership is an integral part of that right. If you want to keep your rights defend them by joining San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO) in San Diego, Orange County Gun Owners (OCGO) in Orange County, San Bernardino County Gun Owners (SBCGO) in San Bernardino County or Riverside County Gun Owners (RCGO) in Riverside. Support the cause by listening to Gun Owners Radio live on Sunday afternoon or on the internet at your leisure. Join the fight and help us restore and preserve our second amendment rights. Together we will win.
