San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), a political action committee promoting Second Amendment rights, has announced it will host a press conference featuring speakers and advocates in support of the Second Amendment and the Crossroads of the West Gun Show at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the publicly-owned Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar.
SDCGO officials said the press conference will be held outside the entrance to the Crossroads of the West Gun Show. Scheduled speakers at the SDCGO press conference will include SDCGO members, elected officials and other honored guests.
“Because of the pending litigation in federal court, every gun show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds could potentially be the last gun show at Del Mar,” said Michael Schwartz, SDCGO executive director. “We’re inviting all Second Amendment advocates to join us and attend the press conference in support of the gun show.”
The final Crossroads of the West Gun Show for 2019 will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at O’Brien Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The gun show will feature western Americana memorabilia, guns, ammunition, hunting gear, tactical gear, knives, targets, jewelry and more.
“It is crucial that we gather to speak out and defend the fundamental right to self defense for law-abiding citizens, oppose an extremist gun-control agenda, and stand strong in support of the Second Amendment,” said Schwartz. “We are committed to restoring and protecting our rights in California by getting volunteers involved in local level activism and outreach.”
Earlier this year, a U.S. District judge issued a ruling allowing the gun shows to continue. The ruling said B&L Productions, Inc., operators of the Crossroads of the West Gun Show, would be harmed in light of a 2018 gun show ban imposed by the 22nd District Agricultural Association, operators of the state-owned Del Mar Fairgrounds. The ruling also said B&L’s lawsuit fighting the ban from Del Mar Fairgrounds board of directors would likely succeed. The two-day gun show has drawn tens of thousands of attendees at the publicly-owned fairgrounds five times a year for the past 30 years.
