Republicans Endorse Gun-Grabber for Sheriff
On Monday night, the Republican Party of San Diego County decided to endorse John Hemmerling for Sheriff. Does the name sound familiar? A few weeks ago we shared the horrible interview Hemmerling gave on Gun Owners Radio. Hemmerling is responsible for the widespread use of red flag laws in the form of Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs). SDCGO has been adamantly opposed to GVROs for years and you can read here about why they are so bad.
Many pro-Second Amendment leaders on the Republican Party’s Central Committee and Executive Committee were very vocal about their concerns over Hemmerling’s anti-gun career. SDCGO worked hard to prevent them from endorsing Hemmerling and to educate the Republican Party on their mistake. Hemmerling has made his mark as a staunch supporter of extreme, gun-grabber polices like GVROs. He didn’t just support them, he helped make them standard procedure across San Diego and many other jurisdictions in California.
Unfortunately, in the end, the majority of their leadership decided it was more important to endorse a sub-par candidate who is anti-gun than not have a candidate. THIS is why SDCGO exists – because your Second Amendment rights will never be the GOP’s priority and the Hemmerling endorsement is a sad, sobering reminder.
That’s why this election season, DO NOT use the Republican voter guide and DO NOT donate to them. Their voter guide is a mine field of anti-gun candidates and the funds they are raising will help go towards electing them. This is a very interesting case where
Every election cycle we remind our supporters to only vote for candidates that you can confirm have been endorsed by a FPC, NRA, CRPA, GOA, GOC, or SDCGO!
Republicans are now in the position of having the only anti-gun candidate for sheriff in the San Diego race. Their decision to endorse Hemmerling has driven a huge wedge between the GOP and SDCGO, and between the GOP and all of San Diego’s gun owners.
Is there any good news? YES! All three candidates for Sheriff, including Hemmerling, are pro-CCW and that is a first for San Diego! This wouldn’t have happened without you and SDCGO! SDCGO also got Hemmerling to make a statement supporting our position on GVROs that you can read here. This isn’t our first race, so we understand that candidates say anything to get elected. We don’t have a lot of faith in his statement, but it is something.
SDCGO endorsements will be out in March. Help us by getting involved and by joining SDCGO today.
Together, We Will Win!
