Along the way, Martinez was endorsed by a broad spectrum of government and community leaders. She easily advanced to the general election where she seems likely to face former city prosecutor John Hemmerling, a Republican with GOP party support who struck a law-and-order image and appealed to Second Amendment supporters. It was Martinez, however, who was endorsed by the San Diego County Gun Owners PAC.
