Gun Prom 2019

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO) annual Second Amendment Celebration Dinner, the event affectionately known as Gun Prom.

About 600 patriotic Americans attended the event in support of our Second Amendment. This is the fourth SDCGO annual dinner and the third that I’ve attended. It’s difficult to describe how wonderful it is to interact with the fantastic people that attend this event.

After listening to the constant drone of left wing politicians, media, and anti gun groups describing guns and gun owners as evil, it was extremely refreshing to spend an evening with 600 actual gun owners. These people are some of the kindest, honorable, and most giving people I’ve ever met.

Politicians of every level from US Congressmen to State Senators to City Council members were in attendance. We even had some radio and TV personalities. But the majority of the people present were just everyday people from all walks of life. Just at our table we had an engineer, a doctor, a truck driver, an egg rancher, and a retired Navy Senior Chief. Average Americans.

In addition to the great people and venue, many area gun shops generously donated fantastic raffle prizes. There were numerous rifles, shotguns, and pistols donated. Exotic hunting and fishing trips as well as firearms training packages were auctioned off.

The dinner also provided great networking opportunities allowing people to develop and grow within the community. I invited a woman I’d met while mentoring a Women on Target event to the dinner. She is brand new to shooting and I was able to introduce her to several women from A Girl and a Gun. Those women will help her have a great experience and ensure she gets the proper training as she enters into the shooting world.

Morgan Ballis is a friend, fellow SDCGO Board Member, and Director of Strategic Planning and Training at DMB Consultants. Morgan is a recognized expert helping schools, places of worship, and other organizations evaluate and meet their security needs. I was able to introduce Morgan to a school board member and an elementary school principal both interested in his help.

I’m guessing meetings like these were happening throughout the evening benefitting numerous people and making our community better.

The annual dinner is the main fundraising event for SDCGO. This event helps fund SDCGO efforts aimed at electing politicians throughout San Diego County that support the Second Amendment. All gun owners, especially in California, need to be involved in restoring and preserving our Second Amendment rights. If you missed the dinner this year please plan to attend next year. Treat yourself to a wonderful evening while supporting a great cause.

The right to self-defense is a basic human right. Gun ownership is an integral part of that right. If you want to keep your rights defend them by joining San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO), the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), and the National Rifle Association (NRA). Join the fight and help us restore and preserve our second amendment rights. Together we will win.
